St. Donatus52071 St. Donatus, a community of 156 people, is located on the Great River Road (a National Scenic Byway) 9 miles north of Bellevue. Nestled in rolling hills mixed with limestone formations, the village of St. Donatus has the largest and best collection of 19th century Luxembourg architecture in America. Thirty-four sites are recognized by the National Register of Historic Places. America's oldest outdoor Way of the Cross draws thousands of visitors every year. Residents take pride in their heritage and have restored many of the early limestone buildings such as the Gehlen House Bed & Breakfast. Luxembourg settlers have left this community strong and interested in growth in all directions. Agriculture is the largest industry, followed by tourism. St. Donatus offers a great opportunity for commercial development. Housing is a priority with a new development just completed.
