With a population of 174 residents, twelve businesses are located in and around Monmouth including two eating establishments, an archery shop, hair cutter, tractor salvage business, car and tractor repair shop, and a hackney pony stables. Monmouth is located on Highway 64 - the Grant Wood Scenic Byway - eleven miles West of Maquoketa. Monmouth has a central City Park and City Hall. The Monmouth Community Center is located in the former Monmouth School House. Several business site development opportunities are available in downtown Monmouth.

The City Park in Monmouth has a playground and picnic facilities for large group picnics

City Parks and Recreation

Monmouth City Park located on North Division Street has playground equipment and a picnic shelter. The Monmouth School House was last used as an elementary school in 1987 and has become the Monmouth Community Center. The auditorium is available to use for receptions, benefit events, community suppers and reunions. The annual Halloween haunted house is the major fund raising event for the non profit community center the last two weekends in October.
